Kai thought he had the cove completely to himself. Hidden among the rocks and turquoise water, the handsome merman was enjoying a private moment when he suddenly spotted something unexpected — humans were getting much too close to his secret retreat.

Already excited before his visitors appeared, Kai now has a more complicated problem. He needs to disappear beneath the water before they discover not only that merfolk are real, but just how much of Kai they nearly caught a glimpse of.

Created in mixed media, Kai: Merman’s Cove blends masculine fantasy, humor, and a playful sense of discovery. The scene captures that split second when a mythical creature realizes his secluded paradise may not be quite as secluded as he thought.
